Alright guys,

All this talk of TV's and mounting has put me in the mood for Dolby talk.

I wired my house for satellite speakers in a 5.1 configuration when I had the den gutted and currently have banana post wallplates installed. My question: Is there a method of connection that will be superior to banana post?

What are some recommendations for a decent, middle-of-the-road amp and speakers?

Not particularly, the banana post/binding jack is the most common. Just get a good quality one though and use thick gauge wire.

The only issue I have is that they generally are not shielded, so you have the possibility of accidentally shorting them if you don't keep them out of the way.

I prefer Klipsch speakers and Pioneer receivers. If you want some dedicated amps, you can look at Outlaw Audio.
