A few years ago we had our kitchen redone. The counter is a grey granite knock-off that has a white sink as a part of it. The sink has a tiny crack right by the drain. My question is, what type of counter might I have, and/or does anyone have any ideas how to cover/hide/fix the tiny crack??

Is it all one piece? In other words, does the seam between the sink and the counter top look seamless? Is it hard like a stone?

If so it might be Welcome to the world of DuPont™ Corian®

Could it be Silestone?

Whether it be Silestone or Corian they sell what is called seam filler. You will not be able to buy it though as it is only available to the trade. Call your local solid surface dealer and the most it would cost you is a house call.

You said your new countertop is just a few years old. Solid surface Corian comes with a 10 year warranty that covers cracks. If your top was installed in 2004 or before then it gets touchy. Regular SS (solid surface) is about half inch thick. Back in 2004 on back, Dupont produced a product called SSV (solid surface veneer). This was about an eigth inch thick. glued and pressed onto half inch plywood. This product has been discontinued due to too much cracking and all old warranties have been void.

There's no need to replace your entire countertop. You can have that crack professionally repaired and it won't even look like there had ever been a crack.

Most solid surface manufacturers use a roll printer or dot matrix printer to identify their materials.
If you pull out the draws and look up at the bottom of the counter top you'll probably see the manufacturer's name- and maybe even the color name as well.

I believe it says "Meganite acrylic solid surface 2005". Will call a few people to see about a repair this week. Thank you very much for all your help and suggestions!

If it is a knockoff probably is Corian, which is not as good as a silestone or granite. I am sure you can have that repaired, but by a professional. I am more then sure you have more of a one piece look. You can find out easy, what type you have by visiting your local HOME DEPOT OR LOWES and looking at the different style counter tops. Do you happen to have a sample of your counter, this would also help.

Meganite has a 10 year warranty ... so you might want to look into that.
Quality (http://www.meganite.com/quality.html - broken link)

That said, you mention that the crack is in the sink ... not sure how the warranty for that would go.
