I cut cardboard strips about 5" deep by whatever length. I shove them under the BB. It's also not a good idea to remove the cardboard till the paint dries because for whatever reason if you pull away the cardboard when the paint sitting on it is still wet you could get some on the carpet piles.

Dont bother with running paper tape around the perimeter. Paint will get under it. The cardboard or even heavy minilla file folders work well..

We use old cereal boxes cut into strips. The laminated side slides really well under the baseboard.

Just finished the four bedrooms of my new house with carpet and baseboard. Most of the time I use a 12 inch drywall scrapper and shove it under the baseboard pushing down the carpet. There is also a product which looks like a 3 foot scrapper with a handle for this. Have not had any problem with the carpet sticking to the baseboard when I remove the scrapper.
