We are currently in the last stages of digging out our crawl space dirt basement in PA. I believe we are at about 18k so far and he still has to build an outside doorway for stairs. I helped carry buckets of clay dirt ducking pipes and then up the 5 or so steps of the cellar doors. The dirt then goes into the wheel barrow and was placed all around the yard and in a huge dirt pile to be removed later. Our house is full of dirt as is our driveway. Hopefully when it is all done we can clean it all up.
We are lookin forward to a dry basement, an actual gas furnace, a better foundation, and increased storage. Also, if there is a tornado we'll have a place to hunker down. I'm not sure how much added value it gives to the house but I will be so glad when it is done as I am spending some of my Roth IRA money for the improvement.
