Hello all.

My garage door/opener is having problems. Sporadically, it would stop in the middle when opening. Now when I say stop, it just stops dead in it's track. It doesn't stop then go down like somethings in the way. When it does this, I just have to push the opener button twice real quickly then it would go down then continue going up. Once again, this problem doesn't happen every time. Just sporadically. Any ideas of the problem? Thanks for all replies.

Sounds like the tension adjustments need some adjusting.

If you're talking about the knobs on the back of the opener that I can adjust to make it more or less tension( I believe ), I've done that.

My door does the same thing. I push my remote button once and the inside garage light comes on..second push the door starts to open and then also stops half way. Found that by holding the button down during the second push the door will continue opening up... maybe we have the same brand "GENIE screwdriver" model.

Also found that the Cold or damp weather has an effect on the mechanism working 100%. When the weather is warm or hot outside the system works real fine.

No I have a craftsman. However, my lights don't blink when it stops. It just stops like it's at the end of the run.

The only other thing I can think of is the electric eye. Are they loose, moving around just enough to break the beam? Are they clean and unrestricted?

Another possibility is that the rollers are binding up. Try spraying some silicone lube on them (don't use WD40).

No they are fine. Even it was so, wouldn't it stop then go down instead of just staying put.

Maybe it's just time for a new opener.
Besides, we live in a throw away society anyway! Oops, sorry. I couldn't resist!
