My husband and I close on March 30th. We need a new washer and dryer, and after we close I want to go and buy a front loader washer and dryer. What is a good brand?

We have the high efficiency machines from Samsung and love love love them. It uses very little water and the clothes are clean and fluffy.

They're all pretty good because they're built to be durable.

But, I prefer Kenmore. Not so much because the quality is markedly better (it is) or because it's still built in the USA (I think), but because of what Sears does for it's employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserves. When an employee is called to active duty, Sears makes up the difference in pay and maintains the family's health insurance at no cost to them.

They've been doing this now since the current war started in 2001 and apparently have no intention of quitting.

To me, that kind of loyalty is worth supporting.

Samsung seems to be rated the best, but is also way expensive. You get what you pay for I think. That's about all I know about them.

I hear people say bad things about Sears and Kenmore, but stillkit's info is admirable. I think you can get a Kenmore that works well as long as you don't buy the very cheapest one.

Some people really like LG but I hear if they break their support is all overseas and can be a pain to work with.

Home Depot sells a really affordable Amana on their website. Read some reviews and look around, I'm sure you'll find one that will work for you.

I came here to say the opposite. A lot of front loaders fail after 5-7 years. A frequent problem is that the bearings go bad, and they are very expensive to replace. This is why you see a lot of not-very-old front-loaders for sale on craigslist for cheap.

Most top loaders can easily last 20+ years. Not so for front loaders.
