Sorry, if this is a redundant post, but I haven't found a solution.
I live in fairly low area and have a pond 30 yards from my house. We are beginning spring and the ground is thawing. There is standing water in our yard from the rain and snow melting so I would think there should be pump drainage. In years past my sump pump has run quite frequently, but now I have no water flowing into the pit. The house is only 4 years old as well. I don't know if the ground is still too froze to allow water to get down to the foundation to flow into the pit or if there is something else wrong with the drainage into it. Anyone have any ideas?

It's entirely possible that the ground is still frozen at the depth of the sump pit. I wouldn't be too concerned about it at this point.

Thanks, that is my thinking right now too, just don't want to have to deal with a wet basement.

I agree that the ground may be still frozen but this is a good time to test out your sump pump. Make sure that it's in operating condition when the water does to start to come in.

LOL... I asked this exact same question about 2 months ago here.
I'm going to agree that the ground is still frozen.
For, the ground is now thawing and my sump pump is going quite a few times a day now.

Our sump pumps have been dry for the past couple of years (there were cob webs in them), but after all the snow & rain we've had here in the North East, both pumps started running about a week ago.
