Ick! I've tried everything I can think of. Toilet cleaner, tile cleaner, bleach, borax. I've scrubbed and scrubbed. What will get rid of the rust?

Have you tried CLR? I've found that if you dump a decent amount into the bowl and let it sit for a while, you can then scrub the rust stains away. If the stains are very heavy, you may need to repeat a few times.

There is a product called Whink that removes rust. It is in a brown bottle and you can find it near the cleaning products at most stores. Do you have a well? You can put iron-out salt in your water softener and that will help too.

I do have a well. I had a new one dug last year and I've had rust ever since. The old well had no rust at all. I do put that no rust salt in the water softener too. Maybe it would be even worse if I didn't?

I will try Whink(never heard of it before) and CLR too.

You have to get rid of iron from the source...well. I have 2 tanks (1 purges air) (2nd removes iron) in front of the softner.
Peroxide is a good cleaner for toilets and non hazardous to septic systems.....

Iron-Out is a really good product for rust stains. I've also cleaned pipes and fixtures with muriatic acid. If you don't know what you're doing though, you shouldn't mess with it.

Kinda toxic and dangerous. Hydrocloric acid might etch china ¿

We used a diluted amount of muriatic acid with gloves and plenty of ventilation. We had to scrub because we also have a well and have been in our house seven years. So the rust stain was quite ingrained. But this worked and now we have no stain at all. But be sure to use adequate ventilation!

Default rust and such....

We had a farm up in MN for years. And it would sit quite a while before occupancy in the bathrooms etc. And after spending much money I finally tried an inexpensive product called, sno bol..Great stuff, and will work on years of build up we found, Has to be squirted directly on the stains, only drawback, but works.

And in the toilet tanks we used rust out I think it was. Big white tablet. Flies off the shelves fast.
