We're replacing our old solid surface counters with granite and I'm getting the sink from the fabricator. He told me to get a different strainer from HD or Lowes or whatever, because the one that comes with the sink is metal and PLASTIC. He doesn't think the plastic is quality. He showed me what it looks like and it has a 4" tail piece.

I want to get these things before the plumber arrives to hook up my stuff.

Two questions,

1. Is the plastic okay? I looked under my sink and I have pvc drain pipes.

2. How would I know whether I need the standard drain/strainer with 1.5" tail piece or the 4"?

3. Okay, three questions. Some of the photos of these things show tightening screws on the underside and some are without.

thanks

4" can be cut down. Once the stuff is in the drain, there is little physical bumping, so I wouldn't worry about that if the plastic was thick enough. What can be a problem in drains is corrosion of metal pipes and especially the ring nuts that bolt sections together. A kitchen sink gets acids and oils (which are usually acid) run through. You do want the basket and retainer and those long screws to be metal.

Harry Chickpea: Can the all metal one be used with the existing plastic PVC drain?

As long as the pipe sizes are the same, sure.

Arrow Question about disposal flange

I'm getting a new stainless steel sink and just bought a WasteKing continuous feed disposal with the EZ mounting system (not 3 screw mount and not batch feed). The disposal flange does not come with the unit.

I need some help in getting the proper flange.

I know I need a standard depth flange in stainless/chrome for a stainless steel sink, but when I look at Home Depot's website, most claim that they are made to fit InSinkErator brand. Will this also fit Waste King EZ mount? I know I need to stay away from anything that says it's extended length or for 3-screw mounting system.

Thanks
