Just had Lowes replace the carpet at my house. The installer did NOT replace all of the tack strips. They only replace a few in the hall way. I remembered some of the track strips looked pretty dark in the bedrooms especially in the closet. I forgot to ask the installer to replace them. Is it going to be a potencial mold problem in the future. My house is built in 2001 so the existing tack strips are 10 year old. Wha should I do?
Thanks!

No carpet installer that I know of replaces tack strips unless they are split or otherwise not suitable for holding carpet. Your 10 year old tack strips are fine. Don't worry about it.

I never heard of anyone replacing all the tack strips... they just replace any bad ones.

Why do you think the old ones will be a "potencial mold problem in the future"?
Do you have water in the walls/on the floor?

My husband is an installer. As someone else mentioned, tack strip does not need to be replaced unless it is no longer usable.

Thanks for the response! No water found in the walls or floor. I just remeber some of the strips looks pretty dark/black especially in the closet and the installer did NOT replace them all. Not sure the dark/black color means mold or not. It is what concerns me right now. Thanks!

Any piece of unfinished wood will darken if exposed to any type of moisture. The darkening you see could be from a soda spilled 10 years ago or something along those lines. I am sure the wood is dry and will not be a potential mold problem.
