Whether you like BP or not, you better hope for all those involved on the coast and for your own wallet in the future, it survives.

The fact there we are all dependent on an industry does not negate their willful ignorance or neglect. People all over the industry know what happened and why. Since when does adding to the area payroll make it O.K. to kill people?
What's the penalty for arrogance? Stupidity?
The fact that we all use oil does not make BP as pure as the blameless. In fact, it is that kind of attitude that causes this kind of stuff to happen. Everybody does it.
The day we start to tolerate poor workmanship from anybody is the day we decide that is what we are going to get and are willing to live with.
What ever happened to being a good stewards of the earth? Not fouling your nest? What you did to the lest, you did to ME?
No one is saying they are blameless or paragons of virtue. But just because someone screws up is no reason to start going all drama-queen (not you, but many others) about giving up all oil forever, oh look at all the evil of oil, blah blah, wah wah, wind power forever, garbage, etc. I don't understand why people have no idea how to put things into perspective.

Agree...absurd to vilify any company of nearly 100K employees, much like absurd to vilify Goldman and finance industry...or to vilify anyone with a skin color or religion not in favor

People often forget US' oil&gas industry, along with its finance and tech industries, are world's most lucrative, innovative industries...and, importantly, create many, many high-income jobs and enormous wealth for shareholders (who include employees and many pension funds of "normal" people all over US)

Weak cos. should go bankrupt or weak workers and CEOs, etc should be fired

Certainly hate to see any talented, innocent BP workers suffer for mistakes of others but suspect stronger competitors will eagerly hire away BP's best talent...by definition, any innovative, competitive, profitable industry is driven and differentiated by its best talent, which is both mobile and scarce

Let's just hope the commies in Wash don't succeed in their war against any profitable US industry and any non-government jobs....

From what I've heard its not very good. The harder part is that many people are getting the cold shoulder and rude treatment by people in the community.

In my opinion BP should be banned from Gulf drilling for all time and everyone else should be allowed to go back about their business.

Pretty convincing for me that BP has some decision-makers who put profit ahead of every other consideration and that this wasn't just an unavoidable event because "accidents happen."
