I am moving to another state and need assistance with my furniture and stuff. Do you have any good moving company to recommend? Have a tight budget so would prefer a company that offers good service for reasonable price. Thanks a lot.

I've only moved from other states to Houston, so I don't have any specific recommendations, but I found the website Moving: How to avoid Moving Company Scams very useful. I should warn you that interstate moves can be very expensive...

Hi, thank you so much for the info. I will read that article carefully. Actually I got too many moving companies calling or spaming me after I registered my moving needs online, and every one of them tells me that the other moving companies are cheaters. I am really tired of choosing from over 30 companies that contact me and I am really scared of being ripped off. I might just rent a uhaul and drive over myself.

You can check a household goods carrier's or move broker's consumer complaint history at the Protect Your Move.gov website maintained by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/hhg/search.asp

While there be sure to read Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. Every carrier you get an estimate from is required by law to provide you a copy.

California, New Jersey, and South Florida all have a bad reputation for harboring unscrupulous movers and brokers.

Last year the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, released a report after a year long investigation about the growing number of consumer complaints that virtual household goods moving companies and move brokerage services were scamming unsuspecting consumers online.
