Hello I am moving toHouston from Cleveland, OH. I am looking to rent houses that are two stories. Most of the properties I am finding in Houston right now are one story houses and I really dislike one story houses. Can you please tell me in what cities or neighborhoods I can find two story houses in?

I am renting and looking to spend no more than $1,500 a month on rent.

Commute doesn't matter because I work from home. I also have two daughters who are in school. They are ages 9 and 5. So I am looking for a good neigborhood for them also.

I don't know where you are looking. When we bought our home, it was a bit hard to find a one story. We love one story home. Cooler and good for pets etc. We live in Cinco Ranch, Katy. TONS of two stories.

Two stories dominate this market. The $1500 is probably the issue.

Interesting, I agree the $1500 may be the issue and not the two story part. You are moving to TX and everything is bigger in Tx! Honestly in most areas I believe two story homes dominate the area. You will not find basements here but you will find game rooms or what some call Texas Basements. Lots of great areas. With your kiddos in mind I would say look into any of the planned communities that have their own schools and lots of parks, swimming pools and what have ya.

There are tons of two story homes in the Houston metro area. Both of my homes in Houston have been two story. However, both of mine were in the suburbs, Sugar Land and Katy. Most all of the homes in both of those areas were two story. In the city proper, you might find more one story homes. All our relatives in Houston live in older, more established neighborhoods in the city, and they are all in areas that are almost exclusively one story.

The majority of homes built after 2000 are two stories. The issue is $1500 in Cinco and Sugar Land. A better area would be the Copperfield area (Cy-Fair schools, nice family atmosphere).

um, we only have 2 one story houses in my entire neighborhood, built in the 60's. Where are you looking?

There are definately "ranch house" neighborhoods in Houston, but there are just as many 2 story neighborhoods, old and new. Maybe the two stories call for higher rent?

Yes, $1500 won't get you anything in that area.

We bought a 3100sq.ft, maybe it is more, square foot home in Cinco Ranch. One level can also be large. One or two story doesn't make a larger home, they are all different. I guess it depends on the area. We just told the realtor, no pools, no two story.

Electric bills in the Houston area can be killers in the summer. The most efficient home is a one story with high ceilings (all other things being equal - insulation, etc.). The next is one stories with the lower ceilings - and two stories last. That all things being equal is important - a two story with great insulation, double-paned windows, newer efficient AC unit, etc. is going to beat out a one story without energy-saving features.
