Hi everyone,

I will be moving to Houston soon with wife and 2 pre-schoolers. We are considering the west Memorial area (close to Nottingham Park). Does anyone know this apartment complex? Is it any good? Reviews posted online are half & half....

Thanks

Based on the location you will be in a good area, a bit of traffic, don't know much about the schools, and you have good access to I10. Considering if this is decent a commute to work, this would be a good place to start out.

My office is located near where Hwy 290 hits 610 (inner loop). Google Maps says the commute is 13 miles and I start to work at 8 o'clock.

What do you think?

I think you are better off in Jersey Village with a much shorter commute, but that's just me.

Someone from the office told me that it would be a shorter commute but Hwy 290 is much worse fro traffic.

Is this true?

290 is among the worst highways in town, but if you don't have to go far it wouldn't be too bad. I'm not familiar with Jersey Village but if you were only considering an apartment you could move a lot closer in and be in a good area. Apartments in Houston generally offer a good bang for the buck. I would ask around on here before you pick one because there can be some real bad apartments out there.

Jersey Village to 610 would not be very far. You might just get on Hempstead and go in that way. You also could rent a house in the Steeplechase or Winchester subdivisions, instead of an apartment.

The reason we would rather rent an apartment is that we'll be in Houston 10 months or less (job training). Then we'll have to move to another State. I just want a safe, nice area for a family. I've been told west Memorial is SAFE.
Can you confirm this?
We need to be close to some good private pre-schools (Montessori or Catholic).
Thanks

I would say West Memorial is safe, but really most of Memorial is safe. The original location you mentioned (Nottingham Park) is good but you could get much closer.
