We've lived in Houston for more than 30 years, grew up here, went to school here, raising child here, and I'd have to say that most of the people we've met have been very good, decent people. We've traveled to different countries on different continents, and Houstonians beat them all in terms of friendliness. Except for Canada. Canadians are VERY nice

I feel sorry for you Grunn. Your posts have been getting more and more vitriolic. Maybe it's time to find another place where you can be happy. Money isn't everything. Houston has its good points, and its bad, but the good seem to outweigh the bad for the millions of people that live here.
.
good stuff

To the OP, it is hard to learn about a place from reading posts on forums. Come visit, talk to people. You will find that if you approach people with kindness and sincerity, people will respond to you in kind. Here's link to Community Job Bank, where many nonprofits post jobs.
You read my post about non-profits! Thank you! I tried careerbuilder and craigslist, but there wasn't much there. Thanks again

Those weren't the neighbors. They were you, you silly, with split personalities. It's time to move Grunn. The heat really makes you delusional.

Grunn : Oh and my scummy neighbours behave like that every Friday and Saturday. It's a fact the houses here are built poorly, made of wood, are little more than temporary structures and are to be torn down and rebuilt when fashion dictates................[/quote]

I ditto that comment. The Canadians are nice.

The Irish in Ireland are too. The ones here seem to not be so nice though. I guess we (Americans) rubbed off of them

While 'we see the world not as it is, but as we are' is a nice sound bite (which I congratulate you for using btw), like many others of it's ilk it has little relevance given the full force of reality kicking your teeth in with it's size elevens.
To put it bluntly if you're living in the cesspit then no amount of postive thinking is going to ameliorate the smell of sh*t.

You've also made the common-for-city-data-forum-users mistake of assuming that just because I call a spade a spade rather than a long handled digging implement that I'm somehow unhappy here in Houston. As I've said before I like living here despite it's obvious flaws. You are correct though when you suggest it's a good idea to find another place to live, Houston hardly warrants more than a short stay. Life is too short to settle for mediocrity. Still that banality seems to work for the millions of people that live here as you say and that of course is their choice (although personally I think it's more of a case of made beds and lying in them).

Oh and 'hugeton' I suggest you

A. Learn how to use the forum

and

B. Develop some wits before engaging in a battle of them.

Is "douche" a high class word? I see it a lot in here. I don't know anyone in my mediocracy that uses it, so it must be. Maybe is douche' ?

Actually I live near Washington Ave. and frequent Midtown. Grunn isn't really exaggerating with the number of loud drunk suburban princesses stumbling in their heels with their Ed hardy/Affliction shirt wearing suitors talking loudly trying to out macho each other for the drunken bimbette 'prize'.

But whats wrong with Specs? Its a candy store for adults.

Yes you frequent Midtown but don't threaten to leave and call the place a smelly dump every time you see a drunk bimbette.
