We just moved in and I got a partial bill from Spark Energy. From June 30 to July 8 we were charged $43 for electricity usage ($.10 a kwh). We assessed a $14.86 meter charge. Is this common? What do others pay in meter charges? Since this is a mid-month bill, does that mean that I will be paying $45 ($14.86 every 10 days = $44.58 a month!) in meter charges when the final month's bill rolls out?

Usually that's a one time, off-cycle charge. I've never received such a fee before.

It was on my bill, even though my account has been activated for only 10 days. Is this a monthly charge?

LOL, you get charged for using one that doesn't require someone to walk the neighborhood and read it? In EL Paso I had one and wasn't charged this fleecing fee. Another made up fee to fleece people.

What's next. A fee to pay online instead having it sent by mail where someone has to actually open the letter and put the info in the computer?

actually, there is a fee to pay your bill online....it goes through Bill Matrix (third party) and it's a $2.95 charge.

OneOk/TxGas charges you an extra fee to pay the bill online rather than mailing them a check.

When you called Spark Energy and asked them what the charge was for and if it would be charged every month, what did they say?
