How can anyone be more correct then this? Nominated for the best post of the month. More commonly called domestic terrorists or donut connoisseurs, much of the public seems to side with them. So sad.

so would you suggest they park outside of bars and wait ?

police officers have different shifts just like every other job....and the times they do catch people under the influence, it's at night....and i have NEVER seen an officer parked at red light looking for expired inspection stickers at night.....

They should have a DWI registry like they do for sex offenders. Get one DWI, you are on it for life. Talk about a deterrent.

Police officers today, for the most part, are revenue agents. Collecting money for the government. Enforcing evictions for the bankers, etc.

Protecting and serving the public, sadly, is a thing of the past.

They serve something else and it's not you. It's a shame it come to this. The public needs to take their government back and make them accountable.

Houston is widely known to be a drunk-driving city and the state legislature and county level government are well aware of the reputation. It's a point of embarrassment within the state and nationwide.

We are starting to see more "no refusal" weekends and there are talks of establishing an adequately staffed DUI task force on the Austin model.

The day is coming. This isn't going to go on forever.

So True! LOL

That's Texas in general.

I actually disagree. There are only so many cops and they need to be where they are - spread too thin as it is. To get serious about enforcement of DUI violations, HPD needs to expand and have a large task force that doesn't do anything other than enforce DUI violations. These guys would need specialized training, specialized management/leadership and judges on speed-dial for warrants. Austin does exactly that and anyone who has gone out in Austin knows that you leave your car in the parking garage downtown and come back for it in the morning because if you're on the road and over the line there, your chances of getting pinched are pretty good. In Houston, your chances of making it home are pretty good even if you can't keep it between the lines because no one is watching. It's really not a "lazy cops" thing, its more of a "no gameplan" thing.

How about a similar to that of Norway? How Norway handles drunk drivers

If I remember correctly the man responsible for the accident was in critical condition and it wasn't thought necessary to post a guard - which was reasonable. Unfortunately, he was able to haul himself out of the hospital and escape. So don't blame the police.

We can blame ourselves.

You want to end the drunk driving slaughter? 50 strokes with a cane for the first offense and the needle for the second. In 30 days it would drop to 5% of what it is now. But that is too "cruel" and "inhumane". Better to let children and other innocents die. Or maybe live like this if they are "lucky": Not Everyone Who Gets Hit By Drunk Driver Dies! warning graphic pictures!! - Journals - CafeMom
