Call CenterPoint. They have an automated response system that can give you an estimate of when your power will be restored. If you can get on-line, they have a map of the outage areas that shows the same.

All I got yesterday from CenterPoint was a busy signal. I called the number for "outages and emergencies" listed on my Direct Energy bill.
Big help that was.

I live near the Sugar Land airport so I called there to see if they had power (I'd been told previously that we are on "their grid") and they said they were using backup generators, and they'd reported to CenterPoint about the problem and had been told that "4000 residences" were affected.

I assume there was a car accident on Highway 6 involved in this ... northbound traffic on 6 near Voss Road was backed up and soon there were ambulance sirens. The power came back after about an hour and 15 minutes.

typically, customer service or the automated service will give you a 4 hour time frame. but most of the time it's sooner than that....

weird you got a busy signal....maybe a long hold time, but it shouldn't of been a busy signal....i'm assuming you called 713-207-2222.

and doesn't look like the accident was involved or the cause...

The number listed on my bill to call was 1-800-332-7143. It's for "outages and emergencies" so no, I don't think one should get a busy signal!!

I've seen nothing in the local media about what happened to cause the outage (or even a mention OF the outage)...what do you know?

yeah, apparently that 800 # is a good number....just don't know why it was ringing busy.

A location will help in the future; someone who is in your general geographic vicinity could give you a better response than "Houston".

With several million people in our area, you will generally not see any news coverage of a smaller power outage. Sometimes it gets mentioned in association with an event; weather events ("storms today knocked out power to 5,000 houses), or construction accidents ("a backhoe cut a phone line today, disrupting phone service to parts of SW Houston"). But a stand-alone outage, I can't hardly ever recall hearing about that. Unless it's very large in size.
