Do you ever watch Home and Garden TV where the people wanting to buy a home have to choose among three homes that all have advantages and disadvantages?

So here's a situation like that. The price for the three is almost the same.

Very large Townhome (3 bedrooms) slightly west of Fondren, very small condo (2 bedrooms) in the Heights, highrise luxury apartment (one bedroom) with great amenities.

Aargh. What do you think?

that seems like 3 different styles of living. On HGTV they present the options and the buyer chooses which one they would see themselves in. you are doing the opposite giving us the options

I dunno, since CherryJohns is in real estate maybe his advice will help

You're thinking of "House Hunters".

Naturally it depends on a lot of things - what will use the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms for, where are these places relative to your work, etc. But a couple thoughts taking it as it is - some places slightly west (or east) of Fondren are pretty iffy. And living in a high rise, you might get a nice view, but it strikes me that it would be a big drag to have to take a long elevator ride every time you want to leave your house.

They all work in terms of commutes. Three bedrooms: mine, spare, study. My stepdaughter just had twins. It would nice if she could bring them to visit--not that I think she ever will. That's the thing, I hardly have any would staying with me, but my friends in Scotland are all saying that I need a room in case they come. Ha! One bedroom would probably be ok though.

His is a "her" and her advice will help. "She" was my buyer's agent and helped us get a solid deal on our home we just purchased.

I love that show, as well as anything else on HGTV. Aside: THere was recently a young Houstonian couple featured on that show, they bought something inside the loop.
Which felt like the best fit for you? Also, work with your realtor or CJ to figure out resale/appreciation potential, safety, and other drawbacks (eg, is it near a railroad? Is the condo going ghetto, etc). One thing to consider, also, is the amount of tax, insurance and condo fee, b/c your total monthly payment may be entirely different. Ie, highrises tend to have very high condo fees, of which you're probably not going to recupe from any appreciation when you resell. Also, I've recently read somewhere (CD?) that some lenders may not want to lend you for certain condos b/c they feel it's a risky investment.
Anyhow, DO let us know what you decide!! I don't like cliff hangers...
