I am sure it is. Grocery is also retail. you should look at the history of Gerland's, Rice, Eagle, Albertson's, Weingarten's(sold out to Red Dot, and Red Dot then sold to Safeway), Randall's(now owned by Safeway since 1998 or 1999), Safeway(in Houston from 1969-1990), Apple Tree, Fiesta, Henke & Pillot(now owned by Kroger), and Kroger to see exactly how competitive the Houston Market really is. It is one of the toughest in the nation. It will be some interesting reading.

I knew you were. I am just more knowledgeable on the grocery side. Look at the history of Joske's(now Dillard's), Sakowitz, Globe, Gemco, Foley's(now Macy's), Woolthworth's, Lord and Taylor, Mervyn's, Weiner's and Montgomery Ward just to name a few. The entire Houston Retail Market is highly and extremely competitive.

If I move, I would be missing Publix, Belk, and Piggly Wiggly. Oh Lord, I can feel the bashing.

Do not worry there is plenty of stores here that will more than compensate for your losses. Piggly Wiggly used to be in these parts too. If Publix does decide to enter this market it would be a tough battle, but I think they could survive it for a while. Have you seen any recent articles referring to an expansion of Publix into the Houston market?

Well who knows, maybe Publix will announce some news of an expansion into Houston later this year.
