Because of my stupidity, I missed the home property tax protest filing deadline of June 1. Is there anything I can do?

HCAD isn't very flexible with regard to missed deadlines. Get 'em next year.

I am in the same situation. I called the Appraisal District and they informed me I could submit a form called: Motion for Hearing to correct one-third over-appraisal error. I will give it a try.

If you are not trying to have it reduced by at least 33%, you are wasting your time, as I did, doing the exact same thing. I was advised by a lady who worked for HCAD by the name of Mercy/Merci/ ?

I bought my house too late in the year to protest, but was being billed based on a number which is clearly too high. I wanted to show my non-foreclosure closing statements to have my value lowered. I was polite, and she eventually told me to do this. I presented all my documents in a professional manner, and made my argument.

The panel looked to the appraiser working the hearing. He said this hearing is for one third reductions... I interrupted and stated Meci at extension xyz told me to bring this material in and this would be corrected. The appraiser loked me dead in the eye and said, "no. This concludes this hearing, thank you".

All you can do is call and plead your case on the phone. If they tell you about the one third deal and you are looking for a dime less, they just want you off the phone.

I was relentless, I kept calling Merci once a day. About three weeks later, she returned my call. She met me about halfway, and adjusted my value after I faxed her a signed statement saying I agree to xyz value.

Be polite, but relentless. Play by their rules, but do not give up. The following year, my value was reduced to the original purchase price(I emailed in my dispute then).
