Just got my new policy papers this week. Coverage goes from July 1 2010-11. Cost the same $350ish. No lapse in coverage here either.

What's it like during hurricane season? Well, if a hurricane comes you won't be able to find these in any store:

1. Batteries
2. Bottled Water
3. Toilet Paper
4. Bread
5. Jack Daniels

Ronnie
Include several cheap flashlights, battery-operated fans and trail mix. I substitute wine for the Jack Daniels - red so you don't have to worry about keeping it chilled. Pick a nice one to go with trail mix.
Tropical Storm Allison is the ruler - if it flooded then, look for a stronger possibilty in the future, rather than one who didn't.

During Ike, Sugar Land/Missouri City saw very little damage. Most of it was down trees and fences.

Hmmm...I dunno, I may keep that burglar alarm idea. Coming down the street into the neighborhood I live in just a stone's throw away from Telephone and Bellfort, about 20-30 section 8ers (let's be honest, it wasn't white folk doing this) decided that the middle of the street was a great place to have a brawl. Sirens abound moments later and I realize why I get in through the other end of the neighborhood 99% of the time.

i'm not saying noone should get it. i'm saying you know you need it or you determined you might need it. you can also determined if you dont or if it doesnt really work. most people just buy because others have it, someone says they need it or they bit the fear based marketing tactics

With down trees, typically comes down power lines. We lost power for 3 days during Ike and it was only a cat 2 when it made landfall. Almost the entire Houston area was without power for days. If you don't have a generator, I suggest you buy one.

You cannot buy flood insurance when there is a storm in the gulf.

You were lucky. I was out for 11 days and my parents were out for 14 days after Ike. They had a generator, I didn't. Things would have been really miserable if it hadn't been for that cold front that came through the day after Ike. As it was, it was doable. Those BBQ grills come in handy for cooking.

Sprinklers? Really? I'm tired of dragging hose three days a week, I can't wait to get sprinklers installed. Not sure how that makes me a sucker.
