That's like asking why Greater Chicago metro isn't above 10 million hence the city limit population being close to 3 million.

I should haven't asked that. I just was wondering why the metro doesn't have more people since the city has 2 million people. That's all. I know it sounds crazy. Also, I just HATE when the area is compared to Atlanta and Miami. It's a shame, Houston will be 3 million people one day, and people will still be comparing it to Atlanta and Miami.

That goes to show that Houston is really stronger as a city rather than as a metro. Its reciprocal is Dallas. Kindof how Dallas isn't quite as dominant as a city, but its backed up by its greater DFW metro area.

not really hun. it is not a metro that has reached its peak and is slowing down like the others. it is a very young metro on the move. there is lots of space here, lots of room for development.
It is just not as old as Chicago, NY, or that other metro with 8M people.

A&M, HtownLove is right. I am thinking that you, A&M, think Houston is maybe a little underpopulated for it's size. But like HtownLove said, if the current growth trends prevail, then in about 15 years Houston will be around 2,800,000-3,000,000 city with a metro of 7,500,000-8,000,000. Now that ain't to shabby is it?!

lets take LA CSA for an example:

19302,597,066
19403,252,720
19504,934,246
19607,751,616
19709,972,037
198011,497,486
199014,531,529
200016,373,645

now look at LA City for the same time periods:

1900 102,479
1910 319,198
1920 576,673
1930 1,238,048
1940 1,504,277
1950 1,970,358
1960 2,479,015
1970 2,816,061
1980 2,966,850
1990 3,485,398
2000 3,694,820

now A&M's question is, why does Houston have a 2M in the city and not 8M in the Metro?

well look at LA. when the city got to 2M in the 1950's the CSA (that is including the inland empire) was below 5M. It wasn't till the 70's that the Metro got to the 8, 9M range and by then the city was almost at 3M.

yeah, he needs to wait, Houston's metro/city range is excellent.

Going by those correct and authentic stats, you are also a statistical Atm like DANNYY HtownLove, then Houston is on a steady pace like L.A. to reach those numbers. So I guess we should say, "Patience my boy A&M, patience. Some say it is a virtue." But I do like A&M's line of thought here though. The bigger, the denser, the better.
