someone told me this when i was new here in houston. it's a short rain in a small area that quickly goes away and then pops up in another area. she said we call this _________ in texas.

ok thanks. i was talking about that to my pinoy friends in houston, that there is a term texans use for that.

question: do you also have a term, when it's raining and sunny at the same time?

because in phils we call this: tikbalang (demon horse) are getting married in the clouds

There is no term, but in Texas, we say "The Devil is beating his wife."

Isolated thunder showers is what the weathermen call them so that's what I've always called them too. Of course in Houston they are more commonly called afternoon rain showers. The closeness to the ocean is usually what causes these & they mostly occur during the Summer months.

Not many of those 55 years in Dallas, eh?

Troy Dungan, who was the bow-tied weatherman on Channel 8 for decades used that term, and it caught on there. I lived there for years. To me they'll always be "popcorn showers".
