Hi,

I'm visiting for a while in the SW area (near Sam Houston Tollway and Westheimer) and the curbside recycling does not accept glass bottles. I've been searching on the web now for a while and can't find anywhere I can recycle them. I found one place on a City website but it said I had to show a Texas licence or a city tax bill, neither of which I have.

In other places I've seen recycle containers in supermarket parking lots, they don't have them here? Any advice?

thanks!

Many people take to breaking them in Walmart parking lots.

You can get the info here:
City of Houston eGovernment Center
The Westpark Consumer Recycling Center will accept the same items as the Curbside Recycling Program with the addition of glass bottles, jars, anti-freeze, latex paint, and car batteries.

Thanks ElNina, but that link led me to the Neighborhood Depository and they say:
"Each user must provide the following as proof of residency:
  • Texas Driver's License or ID
  • A current utility bill or city property tax receipt"
Maybe they're afraid people from Louisiana will dump their bottles there?
Walmart parking lot, here I come!

ID? Really? Sad that they do everything to discourage us from recycling. My friends take it to Westpark, I think the crossroad was Shepherd or Kirby. Anyway, didn't know it required ID. You'd think they'd want more so they can make more money. Well, thanks for the thought.

Geeeez... that's not very smart! People want to recycle, and they want ID???
Sorry, I didn't know that. Maybe you can call and ask?

Did you try this?:
http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/westpark.html

and this
http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/recycling.html
is says that: City of Houston Neighborhood Depositories and Recycling Centers
(Accepts Junk Waste and Recyclables. Free to City of Houston residents)

Each year Texans create enough waste to fill two lanes of I-10 from Beaumont to El Paso ten feet high. wow!!

This might not be the most convenient but this is where I used to recycle. It is right behind the Goode Co. Seafood off of Kirby.
