The officer pulled me over for cutting through a parking lot. This is my first ticket in my life. So what should I do with the ticket besides framing it?

Apparently the fine is like $180!!! Obviously I don't want to pay $180 or have it on my driving record. :-(

What a BS ticket. Here's what I don't understand about that "crime" - what if you pulled in there to go to whatever business there and then changed your mind and left?

LOL, I got one of those. It's "traffic control device avoidance", or cutting through a parking lot or corner gas station to take a right. I always roll through, slow down, look at the gas pump, shake my head and proceed. 'I was shocked at the price, officer!".

There's another one I got dubbed "excessive display of acceleration". That's what you get if you race from light to light without ever exceeding the speed limit in a 400+ hp Camaro. Talk about BS.

Not sure you can take defensive driving class for that one. You might be stuck having to pay it.

Deferred disposition might be an option, but it might be a hair more than $180.

When I was learning to drive, my dad always told me to be sure and stop completely, even if for a second, if I ever cut though a parking lot. "I just changed my mind, officer." Now, I would say, "I was going to make a phone call, but changed my mind, officer".

Defensive Driving - Anytime. Anywhere. Defensive Driving School Course-Class

You will need to order a copy of your driving record, which costs about $15 (I think) and you will probably have to pay a "processing fee" to the court. The online courses are quick, easy and relatively painless.

The processing fee is hefty. To keep a ticket off my record (and avoid the full fine of $185), I had to pay court costs of $120, $10 for my driving record, and $35 for defensive driving online. Total: $165.

It's better to call a lawyer (one that does this - not a high-priced one) and have him take care of it. Yes, it cost the same as paying the ticket and you have to take the defensive driving class - but it keeps it off your record, which would affect your insurance, which is cheaper in the long run.
