I know this thread is old, but I wanted to take the opportunity to hopefully educate people on Great Danes:

#1 Their nickname is "The Gentle Giant" for a reason. They are not aggressive dogs. They will protect their people just like a lab or other dog will, but they are not aggressive by nature. They are not even slightly a dangerous breed. Facts say that little dogs bite WAY more than big dogs.

#2 Great Danes are VERY easy to potty train. Most of them are potty trained very young. They are intelligent, too, which helps. I have had little dogs before and some people will tell you that they are never fully potty trained at all. We had one trained to pee on those potty pads and sometimes she would get close and miss which meant we were cleaning up pee. Danes are just not pee in the house dogs.

#3 They are calm, calm, calm and do not run around much. They don't really chew, except a little in the puppy stage, and NOTHING like a lab or other "acceptable" dog. They don't tear up your yard because they don't dig or run or whatever.

Danes are more like a rug or piece of furniture and less like what people envision. I know that's not really what this thread was about, but I hope to correct some misinformation that the non-Dane person might happen to have. Cheers.

I'm a realtor and I can tell you that it is going to be very tough. I had a client with three small dogs and we got automatic NO several times before I could find them a place. Be prepared for a huge pet deposit and for a big part of it to be non refundable.

Maybe you can find a friend or a relative to take the dogs for you for a while until you can buy a house? Good luck!

I agree totally. I taught dog obedience for 25+ years and would rent to someone with 3-4 Great Danes a lot faster than to someone with 1 Lab.
