Houston is one of the most color-blind places I have ever lived. It's an equal opportunity place all the way around. I would like to see it remain that way.
Yes Houston is very diverse. I dont really see color...I dont care if you are purple. Im technically pink, tribute to my German/English ancestry .

BTW, did you know that the part of our skin that shows the different degrees of color is less than the depth of a piece of paper? Kinda puts the whole thing into perspective.

No offense but you're going off of what Houston is like based off a web forum? People on this site hate cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, because of their layout. And you're going to let these people control your decision?
You thought Houston has potholes? Houston is one of the best cities overall for roads, anyone from any state that has seen the real Houston will always remark saying "Houston has an impressive highway network". Because it does. Seems like you don't know Houston at all very well.
Well thats where I come in, allow me to give you the virtual tour of Houston.
Politically the city is liberal, and becomes conservative in suburbs like many cities such as Chicago and others.
Economically overall Houston is flourishing compared to the rest of the country, but that doesn't mean you'll just get a job cause it has a better economy. Its very competitive and you have to have the credentials to do so. The overall standard of living is great though. Unless you like mass transit, because then if you want to take a train to work, you would hate Houston. Its auto-centric.
Houston is also more diverse than any city in Florida as represented by cosmopolitan global ethnicities. If you only saw Hispanics, I seriously must ask you, what kind of area were you hanging out in?

Houston's port right now currently is the 2nd busiest port in the country after New Orleans and it's 2nd busiest for total tonnage, and 1st for total foreign tonnage.
Houston's airport is currently America's fastest growing airport. And in November it will be one of the only 4 cities in the world with direct flights to every inhabited continent in the world. Also Houston's 2nd airport is the most user friendly airport in America in 2007 and in 2009 it's 2nd most user friendly.

Aug. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Houston, the fourth-largest U.S. city, has been buoyed by construction in the Texas Medical Center, an area with 3,000 job openings that is likely to become larger than Dallas’s downtown, said Jeff Moseley, chief executive officer of the Greater Houston Partnership.
As a result of the medical center’s expansion, Houston may emerge from the economic decline quicker than the rest of the nation, Moseley said today in an interview. His group serves as a chamber of commerce and economic-development agency for the area.
“The construction cranes that are in this region are all down at Texas Medical Center,” Moseley said. “We’re kind of one of the last ones coming into this national cooling off, and because we’re very bullish on the fundamentals of our economic foundation, we argue we’re going to be some of the first ones coming out of it.”

Honestly, I have shown you Houston in comparison to other cities, I have shown you the demographics for Houston, I have thrown all the stats out there.
If you still think the city that invests more money than an average city in roads has potholes everywhere, or the city that has some of the most nationalities represented and is ethnically diverse is still all Hispanic, I am sorry, Houston is not for you then. Just plain and simple lol.
I don't mean to be harsh, but you have to understand how people feel when they hear all these crazy claims and to someone living there, its like "what the heck?!".
I'm a transplant from Chicago, and I love Houston possibly more. Its a nice city with a lot to offer, and yeah it has its downsides but its got enough upsides to make it an attractive place to live, work, & play.
In the next post if you want to see pictures I will provide those, but for now this will have to do:
Easy - You either like it or you don't. Yes Hispanics make up nearly 50% of the population and if not, will soon meet or exceed that percentage. Probably best you stay put in Florida.
We don't want to have to convince anyone to come here -- especially someone without a job. What makes you so special that you think we should be fighting over you, just for a glimmer of a hope that you would grace our city with your unemployed presence?

If she is looking for a job in marketing there are plenty of agencies and non-profits looking for interns and volunteers. They are always looking for people. Houston is such a diverse city and they need people from all walks of life to represent them. They probably wont pay you at first...or maybe even never but they are always looking for fresh talent/skills to use. I am not her gatekeeper. The girl may be very gifted or independently wealthy with a lot of time on her hands. Cant judge someone from a few sentences. My cousin also graduated with a degree in marketing/finance and volunteered for the peace corps. She struggled at first but she eventually found a job with a gov agency.
If she is willing to work for free I see why not?

Honestly, if you don't like hispanics, you probably won't like Houston. For that matter, "white" is not a flavor Houston is overly endowed with. I'm white; in my work group right now I'm one of two; the rest are african-american or hispanic, though at times we've had asian and arab.
Me, I was always the kid with the 64-Crayon box, I like the diversity, but if you want a very white city, white culture, may I suggest Indianapolis?
Seriously, if you've got this many misgivings and you've already been here, don't come. Stay home or go somewhere else. And if you don't have a job already, the above statistics notwithstanding, you may find it tough sledding here (just not as tough as, say, Los Angeles).
O.k so I don't know if Houston is for me yet. I have visited downtown Houston and some areas around Houston and can't seem to imagine myself living there.
When I went there was holes on the streets, its a busy city, way too many hispanics (Im hispanic myself, but I like living with white people a lot better) and a lot of crime?. I just dont hear anything good about Houston in these boards.
So here is my thing, make me understand Houston from your point of view and make me see it in a different way. So far I'm not convinced, but make me see it in a different way. Maybe I'm wrong.
So here is my situation, I currently live in Fl but would like to move to a city that has way less unemployment than us. Currently Fl is at 11.5% while Houston is at 8%. My inlaws also live over there which would help since we would know someone over there. Please please help me.
You would fit in a suburb like Katy, Sugar Land, or The Woodlands.
The Hispanics in those places are very "White Washed".
