Merely evacuating and adding refrigerant to your A/C is $120 at the mechanic's). The models I recommended all fall into that category because they are like Marutis - ubiquitous, with parts made by a variety of manufacturers, and plenty of totaled cars at the junkyard to supply auto manufacturer-only used parts.

After reading entire post, I would like to say that is there any good convertibles which is economical, btw my budget would max 6000 - 6500 $ (2nd Hand)

Don't worry about a convertible - worry about low gas mileage and reliability. You can get the flashy convertible AFTER graduating and getting a job. No, those two cars do NOT come in convertibles. Sports cars, convertibles, etc. carry higher insurance costs.

Just asked the question out of curiosity !
I know the troubles associated with the convertibles, insurance costs, flashy ones are more often stolen, frequent breakdowns, costly repair works, etc

Btw whats the mileage of the cars u mentioned ?

Hello,

I want a car which is not very long, has auto transmission & looks decent & ofc good mileage & reliability.
Any recommendations ?

I have found the recommended ones on cars.com but most of the them aren't in Houston, & also price at about 10K or so.

I have lived in the area that is near the college. I lived in Riverside Terrace. And I lived in a house. If you are moving from a large inner city. You would be used to the buses, crime, etc.
I am also familiar with two apartment complexes mentioned in the thread. I lived at Lantern Village in the early 90's. The complex is very nice, and the complex is well maintained. It is in the middle of an area considered not nice. But I had no problems living there. They have controlled access to the complex. Traffic in the surrounding area, is heavy. But it is a decent drive to U of H. And you have the option of taking several routes to the campus. Broadway Square is the same. However, my personal preference is against it. Some, all bills ,paid communities, control, how cold your air blows in the summer. That is my big complaint with them. It is a little bit of a drive but try Meyer Court Apartments, right off S. Braeswood and Hillcroft. A small complex, but worth the drive. When I lived there, it was owned by Meyer Group. And I had positive experiences, and knew others that lived in other complexes owned by the company.
It is important to take Apartment ratings seriously. You will have disgruntled tenants post bad things. But you have to be cautious on the " perfect" ratings. Thanks to the internet, you can cross reference the information. Just google the address that you are interested in, with the words, crime, robbery, fllooding (big in Houston),etc. Well wishes. Houston is a nice city.
