According to HousingPredictor.com, Amarillo home prices are expected to decline 2.2% in 2011.

They also predict Houston home prices will drop 4.1% in the same year.

Texas Housing, Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso

Since we're selling in Amarillo and buying in Houston this coming May...Yippie!

Better get it while you can. When gas goes over $3.00 a gallon, Houston's economy generally improves.

If my neighborhood is any indication, there's a surplus of unsold housing inventory from the builders because people stopped buying abruptly (anecdotally, based on what I see) once those tax credits expired. This is probably what's driving down prices.

You can't view Houston as a total. Some neighborhoods have been rising, even during the economical downturn - and will continue to rise. Others stagnate. Others are dropping and have been. All things are NOT created equal here. You want a neighborhood that has expectations of healthy appreciation.

When you look at the overall numbers for Houston, just realize that the number is an average - some areas are doing very well and others are doing very badly.

Exactly. I wouldn't feel too excited about picking up a major "bargain" in Houston right now. An area where stuff has fallen that much is probably not a place with lots of potential in the short run, at least.
