We did some initial house hunting in the Woodlands and were advised to stay West of I-45 if possible. Can anyone tell if this is accurate? Are subdivisions West of I-45 better? In terms of schools, property values, low crime, etc?

Thanks!

We are moving the Woodlands next month and we were this too told by the realtors and also friends who live there.

Everything is on your doorstep if you live west of the I-45 so is much more convenient, ie. shopping centres, cinema, restaurants, etc.

Also, all of the Woodlands is located west of I-45. They were right in telling you to do so because it is more convenient (shopping, etc.), but there is nothing wrong with being east of I-45.

Sure is. That is a major downside.

My nephew lives east of 45, it is considered Spring, but is definitely in The Woodlands without the address. I don't know of anything wrong with it and don't know where you get that info. The only difference is you don't get to write "The Woodlands" on your return address.

West of I-45 isn't considered Spring anywhere north of the Hardy Tollroad merge. That is Shenandoah.

East of Rayford/Sawdust is Spring. Shenandoah is in there somewhere. Its all Woodlands to me...I don't know of any areas to "stay away" from out there.

I think the "east of 45" stigma is ridiculous. If you're into names and appearances, I guess "The Woodlands" is for you, but Oak Ridge, Imperial Oaks, North Spring (in Montgomery County) are all great areas. You get less traffic, lower home costs, and more diversity in these areas.

Stepping off my soapbox.
