I was on Krispy Kreme website from my facebook page and noticed that Houston has none. Why is that?

We're Shipley's people. Krispy Kreme sucks.

Blasphemy!!!
I grew up in North Carolina where Krispy Kreme is king.
To me they are hands down better than Shipley's.
They had some stores down here in Houston a few years ago, but they ended up leaving.
I think it was more about having too many Shipley's stores around here to compete with than about people not liking the taste.
The company is very much mismanaged to me, as they have been having financial problems as well for the past few years.

I've never been to Shipley's, but Krispy Kreme definitely doesn't suck.

KK are good, but Shipleys seems to rule the roost here, along with several independent kolache shops. Dunkin Donuts only has 2 shops here.

I've noticed that Houston not a "chain" city it's more of a local mom and pop type city.

I think it's because of Shipley's and every other shopping center and corner in Houston having a donut shop. From what I can remember Krispy Kreme was a little more expensive than other donut places in the Houston Area.

I prefer Shipley's and Dunkin Donuts over Krispy Kreme....KK is a little too sweet (imo) but it doesn't suck.

I love Krispy Kreme - we stopped on the the drive over to Florida at a Krispy Kreme and bought a dozen for breakfast the next day - yum yum. I don't mind Shipley's but you really need to get them when they are super fresh.

I would like a Tony Roma's too - gotta love them ribs!

Regardless of what people say in here, there are plenty of local & national chains all around-- city, suburbs and beyond. (See google maps business search.)

The issue is certain chains enter the Houston market and get run off because they are worse than what we already have.

Another example-- all those Mexican food chains in the DFW area. A number of them entered our market but ran away shortly thereafter (for good reason).
