I'm thinking about moving to the Shepherd/Westheimer area, however the commute to/from work it seems would be pretty bad. I-10 outbound in the morning and inbound in the afternoon is good, but what about getting to I-10?

What's the best route to take for commuting to/from work? How long would it take?

You'll be going against the traffic. It shouldn't be bad at all. I would take I-10.

Straight north to i-10 is the fastest. going to 59 just asks for trouble on the 59 to 610N interchange. not sure how beltway 8 comes into play unless you mean the westpark tollway, which costs money.

the decision whether or not to go 59S to 610N depends on the time. you need to hit the interchange no later than 7AM or so.

> How long would it take?

I would guess 20 minutes. 10 min to get to i-10, 10 min to get to katy.

Default The problem is not I-10

I live in the area you are looking at. Your problem will not be I-10, it will be getting to I-10. You have no choice but to fight your way north and/or west on 610/Shepherd/Memorial/etc. to get to I-10 in the morning and the opposite on the way back. The problem is that many people are doing the same thing and it will take between 10-20 minutes to make your way to/from I-10 to Shepherd/Westheimer. Taking 59 to 8 or any other route will add significantly to your commute time.

LOL i think i did give a bad advice.

maybe because i thought it took forever to go to i-10 from sheperd @westheimer one time i did it.

i also used to work downtown and always take 59S, westpark tollway, sam houston to westheimer @ sam houston

This might've worked when I-10 was under construction, but now the only way to go is straight up Shepherd. It's not that bad.

Besides, why pay the tolls for the right to go that far out of the way south when you're wanting to go west?
