I would like some real info not some anecdotes. Is it a safe area to live or not? Despite its nicknames, has crime actually improved there?

I'll give it to you straight. Greenspoint aka Gunspoint crime and trouble happens at the apartment complexes basically. I'm in greenspoint quite a few times and it's not as bad as it use to be but it's nowhere near a utopia. If your looking to buy a home in Greenspoint I don't really see a problem, there's plenty of safe neigborhoods in Greenspoint. Like I stated most of the crime happens in the complexes and the areas surrounding the apartments.

I was under the impression it had gone downhill quite a bit.

Redlion has the right of it pretty much. I grew up there once upon a time and my parents still live in a neighborhood near there. The biggest problem they deal with is car break-ins which happen every now and then as well as uninsured motorists. Just make sure you keep your car insurance up to date. As for the car break-ins, I had the same problem in Montrose when I lived there (I left not long ago). Of course I'm talking about the houses. All bets are off at the apartment complexes.

All of those areas have security. Call the Constable's office and ask. Call the sheriff's department. IMO, stay away from low rent apartments and you will be OK. If you are working in Greenspoint, there are plenty of rentals 15 minutes away. The businesses located in the offices in the area will not put up with serious crime in the area.

For the 1st. time in my memory the Constable, the Sheriff and HPD are co ordinating weekly in the 1960 area. This along with cooperation with the school security departments is doing a great deal to lower the crime in north Harris county. The crime rate is down. The problem area is still people breaking into cars. Put them in the garage and the thugs will go someplace else.

You can also try not leaving valuables in plain sight in the car.

Believe it or not we actually get people asking "IS IT OK TO LEAVE MY GPS IN THE CAR?!?!?!" Yes, it is, if you don't mind it coming up missing.

I work there. Would not live there. The traffic on 45 south is also really dangerous.

I wouldn't live in the immediate Greenspoint area (used to work in that area for a while).
