Can someone please recommend an Interior Decorator in Sugar Land? We are looking for someone to help in furniture and accessory placement and some furniture buying. We are a couple with just no creative or artistic instincts and looking for someone to make our home welcoming, beautiful, and functional. Thanks for any recommendations.

PM me my wife is an interior designer (with a degree in interior design and not some B.S. decorator) and a manager for a furniture store. It's cheaper than you would think. And she will help you in every way and not try to nickel and dime you.

Hey! I happen to be a decorator - have been for 25 years - LONG before you ever needed a degree to be called an Interior Designer and I belong to the ASID! Watch what you call people dude. The only BS decorators are the ones that don't know what they are doing; and I am sorry but a degree doesn't make you good, it only makes you educated.

Anyone used The Design Firm in Sugarland? They have an impressive portfolio online.
Aside from the cost of furnitures, repairman costs, etc. about how much does it cost to have a decorator choose out colors and furniture, shop and design? Let's assume a living room, kitchen and bdrm total sqr ft of 1000. Are we talking <$1000, $5k, $10k for the decorator's services?

Decorators and Designers are two different things. One costs more than the other too.

I'm pretty sure the Design Firm is a chain decorating service. They worked in The Woodlands too, and they were definately housewives with no degree working for them. Two lived on my street. Fake, Italianate Boudoir seemed to be the style. Resin candle sticks and dark,Baroque fabrics<shrug>

But like said above, you didn't need a degree decades ago, but currently it does let you weed out the dabbler from the designer.

You can always call the Decorative Center in Houston for the Recommendation list. Any reputable designer/decorator in Sugarland would come in for fabrics/furniture selections there.

Depends. My mother is a designer and she purchases at the designer discount which is about 20-50 percent off retail (depends on the fabric company) in the showrooms. Some decorators/designers are happy with that profit plus travel and expense fees. Some charge hourly, some charge a flat fee at the very beginning plus all the costs. My mother is the later category, but she very sought after in Houston, and takes only two clients a year. "It's supposed to be fun, not feel like a job" she says.

Knowledge is power. Yes a degree doesn't mean you're good in any profession but it shouldn't be over looked.

Is that the company I keep laughing about every time I drive by their office on 59? I look at how cliche their office looks and it screams to me "I just know 2 styles: Neo-classical and Western!! And my imagination stops there!!"

Soo funny.

Every time someone I know from Europe or NY area comes over to Houston, they start making fun of our "design firms", how bad people dress, and how poorly local magazines are made. Sorry, I have to say it. And it is not because we have no money. We have lots of it. We have no taste!

Now your question. The big-name firms charge 20K and up PER ROOM. The stand-alone designers may charge less.

AFAIK, many designers press you into using their selected materials, firms, brands and stores. And it totally sucks.
