Where I am from here in Florida there are a couple of neigborhoods in my city where the residents are REAL SERIOUS about Christmas and decorating their houses. When I say SERIOUS I mean it looks like that Danny Devito movie (Deck the Halls) where houses can be seen from space as they are so decorated
.
They even have horse and carriage riding through the neighborhood where people can view these houses and the creativity

Are there any neighborhoods in Houston that fall in that category?

The most famous in Houston is on the NW side near 249 and Cypresswood. The subdivision is called Prestonwood and the last week or so leading up to Christmas is a pretty big deal.

Its something of a Houston area Christmas tradition.

I couldn't say. I've been to Prestonwood for 30+ years and it always is great. Every street has a theme with wood cuts and stories.

Travel Channel mentions it:

Their own website:

not sure if pecan grove has websites and stuff, but they have a contest every year amongst themselves. i went to that prestonwood one year. it was ok. the traffic was absolutely terrible. you should try pecan grove. very little traffic as that area covers alot of sqare miles.

I have a home in Pecan Grove. It is a big deal. You are right. Every house is decorated. There is a community-wide contest. Several tractor-drawn hayrides throughout ther neighborhood. Stop at Randalls on 359 to board. I believe the cost is $5 each person or you can reserve the entire tractor. Sipping hot cocoa on your hayride is a tradition. Local church has provided a live-reenactment of the nativity in the past. Pecan Grove is usually highlighted by the local news. You can go to You Tube and see some of the decoration.

while i live in katy now, i used to live there at riveredge and hwy 90-a, so we have a few friends who live over there. we have been going for years. the only year we didn't make it was 2004. that was the year it snowed on xmas eve. we made it to church and dinner but crashed on the overpass going over cinco ranch when we hit a patch of black ice. other than that we never miss.

we will be going to the kemah boat parade tomorrow, 12/11. if you have never been to that, its really cool. last year we saw a HUGE decoration. it looked as if it were over a 100 foot tall with decorations. we might hit up the heights lights after that if we aren't already spent.

imo, pecan grove tops all i have ever seen in my few years. if you haven't been there yet, you will NOT be disappointed.

There is a house out here in Coles Crossing that puts on a great show with lights synchronized to music.

I went to it a few nights ago. Very nicely done.
