Just trying to get an idea as to some restaurants for a group dinner for around 15-20 people.

Off the top of my head are Maggianos and Pappasitos... but I'm open to any suggestions.

Nothing TOO fancy... something in between preferably

Brady's Landing Restaurant at 8505 Cypress Street Houston, TX, 77012. Their telephone number is (713) 928-9921. Or try www.bradyslandingrestaurant.com. They have an excellent seafood buffet and excellent steaks. I have booked a party their before. The service is first class and you will not be letdown. I hope this will help you Andy.

Are you looking for a private room set up? I used to use the Jasmine room upstairs at Baba Yegas in Montrose. Once you cross a certain threshold of food and drink costs, there is no room rental fee. It is a really nice space overlooking the back gardens and fountains, sort of like a French Quarter courtyard. I use to use it all the time when I was in corporate America for small training meetings. Prices are good, service is good (there are only select waiters they allow to work parties in that space) and it has a nice feel to it.

Escalantes in Town and Country Village (Kimberley Drive/Beltway 8) has a great party room. I went to a birthday party there and the waiters offered great service (including quick handling of separate checks). Also, Carrabbas on Katy Frwy has a party room.

I guess I should've mentioned my budget as well. I'm not sure how much any of the one you guys sent were other than Mccormick and Schmick's...

They reached out and said the minimum is $1,200 before tax and tip... so probably $1,500

I'd like to stay within that budget if at all possible, so just wondering if it's worth looking into these other ones before I get started.

Also, it might just end up being 15-18 people... which isn't really large enough for a private party room.... I think in this case, a fixed menu would be better? Thoughts?

I would chose Palazzos over La Vista hands down. Better food, nicer owners.
