Hello we just started a build with a postwood homes builder company in the atascocita forest. We liked this area because it was close to eagle springs and that is where my sister lives. They didn't have new homes with the size home for the right price. The property tax was also almost a whole percent less outside of eagle springs. Our Budget is 169k and we were hoping to get 2600 sq feet.
However, I am now wondering if we made a uneducated choice. Lucky for us we only started a build with 1000K down. So if we have to loose that we will.
So my question is - Is the Atascocita Forest in Humble a good safe nice place to live? Is Humble Hight school a good school with high ratings and low crime. Any input would be helpful for us.

Humble School District has a lot of great schools. Humble HS is, however, more and more viewed as a lower-income high school since the opening of Atascocita HS - so areas zoned to AHS will be viewed more positively than those zoned to HHS.

There is another high school choice option - called Quest High School - be sure and check it out - if you are interested - it offers smaller community learning environments and was a great option for our family. It is open to high schoolers from across the whole district - but it's not the right fit for everyone admittedly. The enrollment is capped at 400 students.

Quest High School Profile includes email contacts, demographics, and more (http://www.humble.k12.tx.us/QHS_profile.htm - broken link)

On paper, Humble HS doesn't looks so great. But I've talked to people that go there and they rave about it. So who knows. It looks like they are giving Humble HS a complete overhall. It's looking great. I like the location of Atascocita Forest and it looks like it would be a nice area to live. Convenient to many things. I have no stats on crime for that area. ?? I don't feel like you made a bad choice. But it's always good to do some research. ~K~

Humble in 2008:

It will probably be about 40% African American 40% Hispanic.. About 15% white, and 3% asian..and the rest is other.

It will probably be about 55% economically disadvantaged.

Teachers i will give an A+, Why? because they really teach. The scores dont show it because the teachers dont teach to the test.

Yes their is crime, but show me where their isnt.

Its a diverse school...and for that you have to give it kudos.

It is getting a bad rap, only because all the minorities are attending that school, and alot of North forest, and Aldine isd move ins.

Trust me, sending your kid their will be the best thing that ever happened for them. It gives them an exposure to something different....Then a typical High school.. Teachers really care, the new principal (Larry Johnson, Father of Back up QB at Texas A&M Jerrod Johnson..Who will be the starter in the near future) really is going to turn the bad rap around. He will prove that a Majority Minority school can thrive.

Plus our sports are fantastic.

6 current NFL players

numerous College Players

and several top prospects this year.

Come join us this Fall. First Humble game is August 31 at 7:30. At Throne Stadium against IKE...

GO CATS!

I live in Atascocita Forest and love it. It's a wonderful community with very low crime. My 15 daughter attends Humble High School and it is a very good school. The teachers are great, they really care about the students. The new principal, Larry Johnson, was the principle at Humble Middle School where my 12 year old attends, he was a great principal there and I'm sure he will be good at HHS too.

Also, it is my understanding that a new high school is being built in the Fall Creek subdivision with a projected opening date of 2009. Once that school opens, there will be a re-districting and I believe Atascocita Forest will be rezoned for Atascocita High School. I really don't care one way or another because I think Humble is a great school but it's just getting a bad rap because everyone wants to go to the new school.

I think you've made a great decision to live in Atascocita Forest.

Atascocita forest wont be rezoned, simply because a large majority of the Humble High schools student population lives in Timber Forest, Atascocita park, and Atascocita forest... its the most condensed area in the Humble zoned area. Plus, if they were to rezone it... Then Humble Middle would be rezoned to Atascocita... Leaving it with 3 Middle Schools, and Humble with 1... You would cut the population of the HS in half, and add almost 500 Students to Atascocita HS a year... Buy the time the New HS in Summerwood is opened, Atascocita will be surging close to 4000 students... Atascocita will be getting the split... Not Humble. Humbles Athletics, Academic and other programs cant afford another hit like that... It would greatly affect the efficiency of the HS..

I work in close conjunction with the Humble football coaches, and i am sure they would have said something about this.. because a move like that, would greatly effect their football program number again for the second time in just 4 years.

Atascocita- 3200 Students at HS
Humble- 2400 Students at HS
Kingwood- 3000 Students at HS
Kingwood Park- 1200 Students at HS

in 2009, Projected numbers

Atascocita-2700
Humble- 2600
Kingwood-3200
Kingwood park- 1600
HS #6- 1200 9th and 10th only... First Graduating class 2012.

If what you were saying were true. Humble HS, would be moved down to a 4a possible 3a HS.. They arent experiance the amount of growth that Atascocita and Summerwood/Fall Creek area.

If any neighborhood is leaving Humble HS, its the Sunset Ridge and Timber hill neighborhoods.

Any other way, would leave Summerwood, and Atascocita Overwhelmed.

all HS will eventually reach a maximum amount of 3200 kids, your "Rumor" wouldnt work if it were true. That Garbage dump restricts alot of growth.

I am moving into the Fall Creek subdivision, and the new school currently being built there is an elementary, scheduled to open next year. I haven't heard any news about a new high school being built there.

Here is an article from earlier this month that mentions the new Middle School and High School to be built near Summerwood. These schools would service both Fall Creek and Summerwood. Perry Homes offers new, larger floorplans in Summerwood

I see that you were building a postwood home. Here is a helpful website dedicated to postwood homes and all the companies affiliated with them. I would read it. I just hope you made the right decision an find a different builder.
