Where is the source for this? I clicked on your link and it just displayed the "Urban Areas" in the United States and their populations not the Downtown Populations.

The list is highly dependent on the physical size of downtown. A better measure would be a list of densities for downtown areas.

Edit: Found where apparently the list came from: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=183138

hmmmm. I can't seem to find accurate population estimates for zip code 77002 (that zip code contains most of downtown and a little bit of midtown.

This is the best I can find:

ChrisPBrown, your population of San Jose and Philly are so wrong and the same goes for San Diego. Where did you get that silly statistic? It's inaccurate. Most cities downtowns population you listed are way underestimated in you stats. Dt. San Jose population in its frame area is 92,000, not the absurd 4,700 and Dt. Philly is 91,000, not the absurd 13,000. Whom are you fooling?

The walkscore.com puts Downtown San Jose population at 72,000 and San Jose's downtown council district puts its population at 92,000. It's no way 4,700. I'm amused at to where Chris gets his facts from.

Is it bad I find those numbers overwhelming for Houston's downtown population??? Anyway, those numbers are definitely off.....waaaaaaaay off.

I know that's wrong for Birmingham. It has experienced a condo boom, but I can't see the population being that high in downtown.

If any of you followed my link, you'd see that these numbers were based off the 2000 census. Also, they took some odd definitions of downtown which increased the size of some areas, reduced others and specifically avoided what's considered residential even when some cities have very residential areas within a traditional downtown area.

Is there a more accurate list for downtown populations?
