The number of Harris County properties that fell into foreclosure in January was significantly less than in December.
A total of 837 properties went back to lenders at the Jan. 4 foreclosure auction, a 32.6 percent decrease from the 1,241 properties that were foreclosed on in December, according to Foreclosure Information & Listing Service Inc. of The Woodlands.
The January activity also represents a nearly 41 percent decline from the 1,412 foreclosures that occurred in January 2010.

One data point does not a trend make. Also many banks stopped foreclosures for 2 months while they sorted out that robo-signer thing.

Also, I heard several delayed some foreclosures during the Christmas holidays. It will be more important to see March's numbers.

If a wave of Houston foreclosures is going to happen, I hope they hit the market before April/May, when we plan on buying.

I have little sympathy for those who are victims of their own reckless judgement. We do, of course, feel for those who were caught in events beyond their control. But "good news" often depends on what side of an event someone is. And I think buyers like ourselves should be allowed some rejoicing anytime homes become more affordable.

We are so excited about moving to Houston!
