My family is relocating to Houston from San Antonio. We are looking for a 4 BR house that's somewhere in the $200Ks. (A reasonable lot is more important than being in the bottom of that range.)

My job is near Westpark Tollway just outside the Beltway (on the West side of town). My husband will likely work downtown.

We just saw a bunch of areas last week and were disappointed in what we were finding. They didn't seem as fitting in person as they did on har.com. We like Lakemont (South of Westpark) and maybe Copper Lakes but there's not much that meets our criteria.

Any other ideas for communities within about 30 minutes of my Westpark/Beltway in the 200s with good schools and decent lot sizes? (We only saw a little of Cinco Ranch and nothing we liked. So, suggestions there and/or comments about areas to look at are welcome.)

Thanks!

New houses, old houses, urban landscape, suburban, rural? what is a "reasonable lot"?

how sensitive are you to schools? Do acceptable schools work or will you only acept recognized/exemplary? How much "diversity" can you tolerate?

We're hoping for a lot over 8K sqft (but would like even more).
I would like to find a school that is above acceptable.
Diversity of race/ethnicity isn't a question for me. I would like to live somewhere where my kids can play out front/in the neighborhood and where my neighbors might have careers (or a higher education) that are anything like mine/ours.

For 8k+ lot and Recognized/Exemplary schools in the 200's, you're pretty much looking Katy/Sugarland areas, though there are some nice pockets of Spring Branch ISD that are affordable (see Sherwood Forest, Spring Shadows). I don't know the southwest very well, otherwise I could offer you some advice that way.

Look at the Sugar Land area. Almost all the schools in the area are on the higher end. Travel time will be a little above the 30 minutes(35-40 minutes) but you have to give up something to find the home you want.
