comparing the woodlands to kingwood is like comparing an apple to an apple imo. it comes down to what houses you like and where it is and your commute time
All of the Woodlands "proper" is zoned for either the Woodlands HS or College Park HS. Both great schools with good academics, sports, etc. If you live on the East side of 45, you are zoned for Oak Ridge HS. It is a smaller school but I believe has good academics and sports. It has a smaller campus and the building is probably 15+ years older than boththe Woodlands and CP. All schools are in Conroe ISD and considered "South County" as they are all in south Montgomery County. I am not aware of any part of the Woodlands that are zoned for Spring schools.

One thing to keep in mind in the Woodlands is that a lot of the newer construction is fairly far west of 45, almost to Magnolia. I have some friends that live there and the biggest part of their commute is just getting OUT to the freeway.

I agree with the previous poster - the Woodlands and Kingwood are pretty similar and would offer a similar commute for your husband. Good luck with your move.

i, at one time, had some night jobs to do in magnolia. i don't frequent magnolia but it seems as if there in only 2 highways that lead to magnolia. and all the commuter are trying to get on them at the same time. its been a couple of years since those jobs, so i am not sure if they have improved those roads.

They really should have built " The Woodlands Parkway" better. An actual PARKWAY would have been far better than a ParkingLotway. Grogans Mill is the only one that was designed correctly, with an exit ramp down to the road.

I would agree that just to and from the back to 45 can take 30 minutes easy during rush hour...and it's been 5 years since I did it from the middle of that place.

For the OP, I was not thinking of the far west side of The Woodlands.

Both Kingwood and The Woodlands are beautiful communities. The Woodlands has more upscale shopping, and rates a bit higher on the snob appeal scale. You will generally get a bit more house for your money in Kingwood and enjoy MUCH better commute times to downtown (its a matter of traffic rather than just distance). Either would be excellent communities in which to raise a family.

I like both Kingwood and The Woodlands. TW is newer and I prefer it but both are nice. I know where your husband works and recommend looking i both neighborhoods as where a specific house is will have a significant effect on commute times.
