hello,
moving to houston from CA and there's just so much to cover I'm hoping folks can help me out with any information on Spring (areas zoned to Klein ISD), Sugarland and S-Katy, particularly
1)commute times to downtown at 7/7:30am, i've heard traffic can be aweful
2)safe family oriented areas to buy a home for b/w 180 - 250k with good elementary schools and afterschool programs, safe parks for kids to play/ride bikes, other activities for kids, sports. etc

thank you

I live near Sugar Land and the commute is not that bad. The commute up 59 South is about 35-40 minutes at that time. Most of the ride up is at posted speed once you get past the Beltway.

Sugar Land would also fill your question about good schools, safe parks, and other activities.

You may want to look into Fall Creek as well.

Spring now is probably about an hour plus commute around those times. I-45 is a deadlock every morning if you can't take the HOV lane. The Hardy Toll Road is not as bad, but only goes to 610, so I'm not sure how much it will improve the time.

I'm not sure how the commute is from Sugarland and Katy, but since the I-10 expansion and WestPark tollway, I believe you'd be better off coming from those directions.

Keep in South Katy and Sugar Land. Nix Spring and add in Kingwood instead. The commute from Spring would not be good. Kingwood looks as far away but that highway moves fast.

Sugar Land commute to downtown is good leaving at 7 am, terrible leaving at 7:30 am. The commute home is much better if you can manage to leave by 4 pm.

I can not comment on anything from South Houston since I haven't lived on that side of Houston. I agree with chery with that Spring would be a tough commute, since it is off of the north side of 45. If you want an idea of what traffic is like, then go to Houston TranStar Real-Time Traffic Map . I live in Fall Creek off of 59N & Beltway 8, and it is a quick commute for my husband in the mornings-currently 20-25 min from the neighborhood. It will be even faster when the beltway ramps open in a couple of weeks. We love that it is family friendly and a nice elementary within the neighborhood. Kingwood is also a beautiful neighborhood in the area just north of us.
