Hi,
I have found the people in here to be very helpful and I would like to get some advices from you guys. My husband and I recently relocated to Houston and we're living in The Woodlands. We love everything about that place! the fact that it's away from the city and yet has so many amenities, great places to go kayaking and fishing, the nice diversity and it's very clean. We are thinking about buying a house sometimes next year in the woodlands and raise a family.. a place to call home for at least 20 years! Like every parent to be, SAFETY comes first but honestly I'm worrying about the future of the Woodlands in property value since it's very close to some non desirable areas.
Four years ago, my husband and I bought a condo in a very nice neighborhood in Florida..little by little it has gotten so bad (due to being so close to another bad neighborhood) that our property value went down dramatically! not also to mention that my car got stolen ( yes that bad). We eventually moved and rented the place. So do you guys think it will be a good move to buy there? Any thoughts and advices are welcome! Thank you!

I'm sure you can get a good house, just don't expect to make money on a Houston house by selling it after a short time. The Houston market doesn't fluctuate as wildly as other markets. I really don't think the Woodlands will go bad. It seems like a pretty solid choice.

The Woodlands will be great for you. It will be a good and sound investment for you propert value wise. The Woodlands holds it property value.

I can't see The Woodlands going bad. Get into The Woodlands, not on the edge of it. When people think of Sugar Land, they think of the nice part and forget the part that touches Alief.

Good point! I was thinking about that too! Also I'm staying away from buying next to any shopping places..We have a year to go before we decide what to do so we'll see. I don't want to get s*crewed again! Thank you to all of you for your input ( I feel a little bit better lol)..Are there any of you out there who've been living for 5 years or more? How much has it changed from then?

You never hear about crime in TW because they don't have to report to anybody. It is private. A few years ago a friend was beaten almost to death on a jogging trail. MPC are not immune.

The Woodlands will go bad within the next 10 years just like every community in the Houston Metro. If you want to find an area immune to crime you will need to move outside the metro. But really crime is not something you have to worry too much about anywhere. Just use your brain and keep doors locked and be aware of your surroundings. Some of the worst crimes ever committed have taken place in secluded wooded areas. I have lived in the city for the past 3 or 4 years and never been a victim of crime.

I really doubt The Woodlands will ever "go bad" in the next 20-30+ years, and that goes for any established, higher-income suburb. (Short of a major natural or economic disaster, that is.) A lot of suburban areas have never gone bad at all, and they've been around for 100+ years, before they were swallowed up by the metro. I can't see The Woodlands being any different in the future.

As far as crime goes, ditto to the above-- just use common sense. Property crime is everywhere, in this entire state.
