I was looking at some $400k houses for sale in west houston.
right behind their back yard fence, is 3-4 stories of balconies for a low income apartment complex.
these people cant even hang out in their own back yard without being stared at.

Just an observation...

Wow, that developer sounds like a complete jerk.
Even more reason for them to protest now.

Of course residents have a right to protest, the developer is getting tax-funded freebies to build his thing. If he doesn't want the hassle, he can build on his own dime.

And it's amazing how these guys keep going further and further out, where I know there's got to be less demand for this kind of housing than in more dense areas of the metro where land prices are higher. Hopefully the TDHCA wises up and less of this goes toward those examples, instead going to rehab existing places that are falling apart.

When the developers aren't piggy-backing off the taxpayers' dime, they can build where they want. When people living in these aren't living off the taxpayers dime, they can live where they want. Until then, the taxpayers and existing residents have a voice in these matters and shouldn't be made out to be the "bad guy."

One piece of advice if I may. Read, listen and take your time before you answer to anything, online and in real life.

Before jumping in all over this, did you actually read the article online and then look at your statement bellow again. You either jumped in quickly to answer just because you always do that, or you indeed lack comprehension of certain matters. For a college kid I have to give you this, you're doing a lot of choppin', but no chips are flyin' mate....

Do you suffer of premature posting?

Since you have the money, buy top-of-line security to make sure that you and your family are safe, since people who in low-income housing are crime ridden. Y'all really offend me everytime y'all talk about this because I grew up in low-income housing. NO! I'm not poor and never was on welfare! White flight occurred heavily in my little hometown, so you get the picture. Come on, now. Just let folks be, and maybe we all can live happily. Everyone isn't rich or well-off, so if this group wants to live in the subirbs, too, let them. Shucks, they want to better themselves within their means and with the little that they have! GET OVER IT!

They don't choose where they live in this case, they're being told and they're being offered cheap housing that is "funded in part by federal tax credits". Call it a socialist approach where you take it from the HARD working (not rich) and give to the poor. The beauty of is that they now get to live in your backyard shi*tin' slumps and crime as the records shows it. And now that is a problem that we have to solve differently. I am not saying to put them on an island but there is gotta a be better approach to this....
The poor aren't hard working? Oh I forgot, all poor people commit crimes and are lazy.

There is always a demand to live in areas with good schools and lower crime no matter what your income is. Not to mention, according to the Census results the migration of the low income out of the city's core and into suburbs increased.

Of course you have a voice in the matter. However, when you advocate a policy that separates people based on class it can be easy to be made out to be the "bad guy".

I understand the reasoning behind it. However, the poor are an easy scapegoat. Instead of complaining to the government about how subsidized low income housing is coming to your neighborhood and lower your land value you should be complaining to the government how a "small government" ran, non-unionized, low regulation state can be seriously considering the sort of cutbacks it is. If I was a suburban homeowner I would be very worried how these cuts are going to effect to my land value in the future as the schools will suffer, less roads and parks are built, less money for safety, and unemployment increases from layoffs. Somethings not right with the government in Texas right now.
