Those were not streets back in the day. They were Farm to Market roads used for quick delivery of produce from the farms into the city.

The roads became urbanized as the city sprawled out to meet the farms.

The streets developed formal names, but the Farm to market names stuck.

Farm to Market road 521 for example was used to bring produce from deep down in Brazoria County up into Houston all the way to midtown. 521 is now better known as Almeda RD

Highway and street are valid names for all Texas public roads.

HTown love. Of your list:
Fondren, Woodway, macgregor, Dairy Ashford, Gessner, and Post Oak are no that heavy of volume streets. They just are backed up, but not that busy really.

Westheimer is a mess. I get nervous driving on that road with all those lanes and cars and plus you got people zipping back and forth through the lanes.

I agree in part. The list measured back up and time wasted during the commute.
What I do not agree with is the volume on Post Oak and Gessner. Those two have high volumes.

Lol, you don't like driving anyway, I am surprised you are not a NE, highly walkable density freak
