I once had a cop pull right behind me in the left lane when the entire road was empty. He put on his sirens so I slowed down to look for a place to stop. Then the cop turned into the right lane, sped past me and gave me an angry glare that I was slowing him down. WTF? This is the kind of crap they pull with impugnity.

It looks like HPD has it's apologists but they are losing the PR battle (despite no organized opposition). People are seeing them for what the are. The bad economy has exacerbated their need for highway robbery as a revenue source. But, people aren't going to forget this for years.

^^^ I agree... I see them often on my way home, driving like a maniacs to the.... Exxon gas station to meet for a cup of coffee and donuts. I take the same exit, and while I wait for the traffic light to change I see sometimes 6-8 cars standing there at midnight.
Interesting that exactly at midnight this gas station is closed for 20-30 minutes for " shift change"... yeah right!

Such an outrage. I can see why you are so angry. Really.

"People?" City of Houston has 2.1 million people in it. How many of them exactly have shared their feelings on the issue with you?

No, I seriously don't pay that much attention to the police cars. My three year old does though. He likes the fire trucks too.

In Texas, the left lane is for passing, unless traffic conditions dictate otherwise. Ever seen those signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right"? They are legal reminders that you should not drive in the left lane.

SO... you state you were in the left lane when the entire road was empty. That's why he pulled behind you with his sirens on. He wanted you to move to the right! Had you moved over, that would have been the end of it. But when you looked for a place to pull over, he figured you were an idiot on four wheels, and like so many of us that actually take the time to drive safely & courteously, he got frustrated and had to pass you on the right. Which is much riskier than passing on the left.

You're lucky he only shot you an angry glare. Some drivers will d*mn near run you off the road for what you were doing.

You do realize you're legally required to yield to the right in this situation, don't you?

By law and policy, they are supposed to pass you on the left when lights and sirens are activated if at all possible. This is the same for all emergency vehicles.

If they don't and an accident occurs, their butts can be in the sling for it.

The simple thing to do is to yield to the right and let them pass.

But, seeing that you consider all cops to be "losers", I think I'm just wasting my time.
