You are correct that Katy is too far away. There are plenty of Christian schools for younger kids just about anywhere in the Houston area, including Pearland, Mo City, and Sugar Land (two words please). Older kids may be a little more difficult, but I only know Sugar Land well, and there is Ft Bend Baptist which includes high school. Some other schools (not sure which, but I see the kids waiting for transportation in the mornings) do pick up high school age kids in the Sugar Land area. Picking a place to live will come down to preference and budget.

Hard to tell which place would be best for you because you didn't say much about what you are seeking. Houston suburbs are more alike than different, so you could likely be happy in any of them within reasonable commuting distance. The time of day you go to work makes a huge difference. I have friends working at the Med Center who think their commute from Sugar Land is a breeze because they never do it during rush hour. My commute, during the worst rush hour times, is not so good.

I really enjoyed living out in Katy, but you're right, the commute times weren't for me either. Of the ones you mentioned, Pearland will generally have the best commute times. My recommendation is either Pearland or Sugarland. Both are great places to live.

Stay away from Missouri City. It's not as safe or as nice as some would like you to believe. Pearland is also losing it's appeal IMO as is Katy.

The only part of Missouri City I'd live in is in Sienna Plantation. I wouldn't live in Pearland (even though it is really close to the med center but so is Sienna.) Sugar Land is nice, but there are some crappy parts down Hwy6 near Alief.

Parts of First Colony are in Missouri City and are indistinguishable from the Sugar Land sections right across the street. Riverstone is a very upscale neighborhood. Colony Lakes is nice, as is Lake Olympia and a number of other Missouri City neighborhoods that are no closer to the crime incubator areas in SW Houston than Sienna or much of Sugar Land are.

Definitely a difference once you cross Austin Parkway. Anyone can see and feel the difference between the two areas. Riverstone is nice but surrounded by ghetto garbage. I think anything south of Austin Parkway & Highway 6 starts to feel sketchy. Anything north of Austin Parkway is lovely.

If you consider areas like Lake Colony to be "ghetto garbage", then I don't think I have any use for your opinion now or in the future.

I live close enough that I drive through there almost every day, and shop regularly in the area as well. Having spent some time in real ghettos, I have to say that your description of the area is a gross exaggeration.
