Cy-Fair ISD considering major tax increase | Houston & Texas News | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Wow.

They surely have a plan to put the brakes on growth up there...

There are about 100,000 students in Cy-Fair ISD.

It's ridiculous that Tomball ISD receives $1300 more per student than CFISD from state funding formulas.

If Cy-Fair received the same level of funding per student from the state of Texas as Tomball received, that would mean an additional $130 Million for the District, negating this crisis. Why are we not getting our fair share of the funding?

Wonder how long it will take the lege to make the exemption mandatory if this becomes a trend?

You can bet if Cy-Fair pushes this through, you'll see it happen in other districts soon after.

If this does go through, you're going to see hundreds of thousands of pissed off voters questioning any and every tax - for services they don't receive any benefit from...METRO & the Port Authority taxes should be high on the target list.

A positive note, hundreds of thousands of motivated, pissed off voters can be a good thing as well.

OTOH, maybe the legislature viewed the exemption option as a "tripwire," whose cancellation by multiple ISDs would provide them some advance warning that a new funding option was needed?

"Under the state’s school finance system, Cy-Fair ranks among the bottom in funding per student. Cy-Fair receives $4,606 per child, compared with $5,903 in Tomball, one of the better-funded districts in the area."

"Cy-Fair will see an extra $24.7 million in new state funding this year, according to Anthony, but he said that is not enough to cover rising expenses in the state’s third-largest district. "

Wow, that not good lol. Not only do you have to deal with the worst Hwy(290) in Houston metro, but now you're going to pay more just to live way out there.

On a good note, you still can get a lot of house for your money in cypress. More bang for your buck north of Katy

Weird. Where do you find these amounts per child, OFFICIALLY. Because I think I saw somewhere thant Spring Branch ISD spends 8900 +/- per child. That seems out of line with the above figures.

Maybe CFISD can sell corporate naming rights to the Berry Center to raise some money.

Dr. Anthony would've gotten run out of Texas City had he tried this when he was there (when I was in high school)
