Houston has more acreage of parks than any other large city in the US.

You are fooling people if you are trying to make them believe that Galveston/Keemah is some sort of attraction worth visiting more than once.

Yes, because in most other real cities, 40 miles from downtown you are in a different city/town.

UH Law School is actually pretty respected. I think about top 50.
The only "second tier" UC school is UC-Merced. That one just started from scratch a few years ago. Every single other campus is ranked among the Top 100 research schools by US News and is generally recognized as such. The fact that they don't all have relevance in your insulated little niche of a profession and do not field D-I football teams does not diminish their overall stature.

Back on topic.

Houston has a large number of wealthy businessmen, but not a large number of wealthy people from other professions. If you look at LA, there are large numbers of wealthy businessmen, maybe not as many as Houston, but there are also Hollywood celebs, royalty and royalty children when they want to live in the US they live there or NYC, international sports stars generally choose their home there, etc...

This makes the whole feel of the city different. In LA you just know there are important people everywhere around you, and they could be a business owner or a Hollywood celeb, or an important royal on vacation.

In Houston you know that the wealthiest are generally businessmen. Nothing wrong with that, but the wealthy in LA have more free time to have expensive hobbies like yachting in the Pacific, skiing up in Tahoe, hiking out in the preserves, in general life enriching activities. It's the difference between fiscal wealthy conservatives and wealthy liberals.

I hope people understand what I mean by this. Again, not bashing Houston (or LA), just showing how they are different.

As far as the trhead goes, I don't see similarities between Houston and LA, other than being super spread out and having a huge Mexican population influence.

The nice things that Houston has that L.A. doesn't: very affordable, fiscally conservative, stronger economy.

LA is much more beautiful, trendy, and as a consequence expensive.

A lot of that is undeveloped floodplain (George Bush Park). Not exactly Central Park or Golden Gate Park...
